I just start using the book, but I think ...

I just start using the book, but I think it will help you to improve your Russian. It's a pity there is no cd or dvd includes, although the price of the book is extremely high, but you have to use the internet site for listening mp3 or watching video. A lot of exercises, referring to sound and video files you cann'n make without internet. The book gives a wide range teksts, grammar, exercises and commands for the improvement of the writing and speaking. But you always need internet connection to study.

Finally, a textbook which helps learners project their academic identity while speaking Russian!

Not just timely, but a much-needed and a long-overdue textbook! I used it for teaching RUSS 411 last spring semester, and I will happily use it again for both RUSS 411 & 412. The textbook is very useful for working with both heritage speakers of Russian and non-native learners. Both categories get to know tons of useful information about today's life in Russia (the book is also supported by online components, including authentic videos) and learn to project their academic identity while communicating in Russian (which has been always a problem even with the most fluent heritage speakers.). At the same time, readers are exposed to the raw authentic conversational language and thus get prepared for functioning in the real life.

Among the features especially appreciated by students are an e-version of the book (less costly) and the Russian-English vocabulary in each chapter as well in the end of the book. The grammar charts that come in the appendix are also very valuable.

I believe that anyone who successfully masters the grammatical and lexical information presented by the book, along with its country-knowledge content, will be able to communicate in the contemporary Russian of well-educated people and successfully use the Russian-speaking mass media for any professional purpose. Therefore, I highly recommend this book to all Russian-teaching colleagues as well as independent intermediate-to-advanced learners of Russian.

I LOVED RYAN!

First, I loved Lietha's "The Doctor and the Assassin" book. My favorite character of all time was Nick Castile, so I was looking for another book that had Nick's characters as the leading men. I took a chance on Retribution,. And wouldn't you know it -- Ryan was a really close second to Nick as far as his characteristics, looks, etc. I really got into this book. (Spoiler alert): close to the end of the book, Lietha actually did bring back Nick and his brother for a short time! Fantastic! Comes to find out, they (Nick and Ryan) worked together in the past. I loved it! It has lots of action, and romance. Keep up the good work Lietha! Write about more characters like Nick and Ryan! I'll be purchasing those books!

Wonderful story! Action, mystery and romance. Oh my!!

The hero is hot, a well oiled "machine" of a man who comes to realize that he is human after all and that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The heroine is a strong woman, who has been neglected and betrayed by the ones who should love her the most.

This story is action packed, a flair of mystery and many twists and turns. There are some hot love scenes too! They save each other in different ways, but you have to read the story to find out how. You won't be disappointed

Great characters, great storyline. I loved the surprise tie-in with another book...I won't spoil it :). Good HEA and great alpha male! I only wish the epilogue was further in the future to give you a taste but what was said was good.

One of my all-time favorites. I cry every time I read it.... [The book] is a beautiful script about parenthood, a poignant parable about life and death, a testimony to when the roles of child and parent become blurry. The story reminds you that no matter how grown up you are, you're always someone's child; that no matter how "adult" you are, you're never too old to be loved by your parents. It makes me appreciate even more how my mother still calls me and my brother (despite us being 32- and 22-years-old, respectively) by our childhood nicknames, Pussycat and Tchotchke (Yiddish for "knickknack"). Pigeonholing this as a children's book is like saying "Romeo & Juliet" is merely a cautionary tale about drug abuse. I dare anyone to read this story and not shed at least one tear by the end. A story that transcends generations and inspired an author.

I bought this as a gift for one of my friends because she had never heard of Love You Forever. My mom reading this book to me is one of my fondest childhood memories, even though I only vaguely understood the significance of the story when I was little. I remember the day in elementary school when I half-heartedly picked up that same dog-eared copy to read to my little sister… and broke down in tears as the full scale of the story hit me. It is the very first book to make me cry and did so before any movie or television show could, sealing my love for literature. Now I am a Chicken Soup for the Soul author and read this book to my own children. Love You Forever is the rare story that transcends generations and is the perfect gift for grandparents, parents and children. Highly recommended.

My sons are older & did read many of the Muster Men & Frog & Toad books & a favorite was Harold & the Purple Crayon

Prior to reading about the author & the story behind the book,I had not heard of it. My sons are older & did read many of the Muster Men & Frog & Toad books & a favorite was Harold & the Purple Crayon. As a family growing up. we were all readers & both of my sons were early readers. This particular book made me cry. I am much. much older now but also lost little babies through miscarriages. I had a son who was named David long before he entered this world. This was more than 40 years ago & at that time & in that place, i delivered him much earlier than expected & was alone in my bed when the contractions began & delivered him on my own & he was not born alive. The nurse came in & took him from me but would not let me see his face. It was a different time but i did mourn him. This book absolutely made me cry but i still could relate to the images presented i.e. having my older son take all of the books from the shelf, or tearing photos out of an album or giving Ernie a bath in the toilet which then overflowed when he flushed it.. There is joy & yet such sadness in this book. It kinda broke my heart again & brought my little David back to life. Yet, i do realize that i may not have my older son if David had been born alive.

Nellie Stone Johnson is a major force in Minnesota and national politics. In this lucid oral history from Brauer, the Minnesota correspondent for Newsweek and the Chicago Tribune, she modestly reflects on her campaign during most of the 20th-century to improve educational and job opportunities and health care. Johnson recounts her prosperous farm beginnings with a father who organized other farmers in the face of corporate greed, racism and regionalism. One of eight children, she explains the credo of her clan, which refused to be rigidly defined simply by being African-American, as evidenced by her father's involvement in progressive and New Deal politics (largely defined by white, Southern Democrats) at a time when most African-Americans still voted for the party of Lincoln. Influenced by her father's activism, Johnson later became a union organizer, enduring two failed marriages that fell victim to her single-minded devotion to her work. She commends FDR's administration for the commitment to end federal discrimination, but openly admits that racism played a major role in her own decision not to run for Congress. After her union pals ousted her from office because of her left-wing leanings, she became a seamstress while retaining an abiding interest in politics. Age did little to slow her down as she swapped ideas with Thurgood Marshall, served a long stint with the Democratic National Committee from 1979 to 1988, toured Africa and battled with white feminists over the inclusion of women of color in the ERA fight. Brauer skillfully conveys the story of an inspiring and noble woman, still active in her 90s, who has made every minute of her life count.

A social activist, labor organizer, "third-generation feminist," Johnson has devoted her entire life to political change. Now 95 years old, she is still busy, dictating her life story. Raised by farming parents who valued education, hard work, and equal rights, she was an activist from the day she learned to speak. She brought on change by organizing labor unions in the days when being affiliated with unions was dangerous. After unions were accepted in work environments, she was free to pursue more public activities, such as politics. Although she did not graduate from college, she is a lifelong learner and holds an honorary degree from St. Cloud (Minnesota) State University. Because the book is presented as an oral history, and Johnson has a tendency to ramble, it could use a bit of editing for organization, but on the whole, it is a fascinating look into the life of a powerful, energetic woman. I actually think this is a very good textbook. It is straight-forward and very easy to read. It goes over basic anatomy and some basic physiology but you can skip these portions if you did well in those classes. It also has describes some diagnostic tests and diseases which is nice to see how these terms can be applied. Sections are broken down into the systems of the body (i.e., cardiovascular system, blood system, immune system, etc) and you learn the medical terms that apply to each accordingly. I only wish this book was offered in hard cover.

This texbook was required for a class I am enrolled in, and unlike my other previous experiences with classes, the professor does use the book frequent enough to consider it a core asset of ones success in the classroom.
1) The illustrations used in the book are easily found in the index and cited correctly
2) The material that the book contains is written in a way for anyone to understand
3) The book has held up well against regular wear and tear from being in a bag.

Overall, I am pleased with this book.
I decided to deduct a star based on the fact that there is no companion software available for this material in order to visualize it better.
I have used an assortment of videos I found to make a playlist in order to prepare for an exam in lieu of such software.
